FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why should I use flyvia?
Why visit many sites and spend a lot of time and energy in trying to find cheap flights when you only need to visit one? We gather information from airlines and travel agents all over the world and show you the best available prices at your chosen destination and time. You can therefore save time and money. We can even find cheap connecting flights you’d never see coming from your regular travel agent or local airline, see Self-Connect.
What makes flyvia different from other sites?
Our partner Dohop searches over 600 airlines, 250,000 hotels and 1,000 car rental agents worldwide. Since its foundation in 2004, Dohop has been committed to providing a complete overview of flights available in the world. You will be hard pressed to find a site as comprehensive as Dohop in this respect, not to mention the convenience of having all the information you need in one place. We have a unique way of reading airline schedules data and airline prices that allows us to show prices that are often much cheaper that other sites will show you, and we call this Self-Connect.
What is Self-Connect?
The Self-Connect icon appears when we have most likely found a cheaper flight option for you. Self-connect is fyvia’s specialty. This however requires you to book separate tickets. When arriving at the transit airport (when you are changing flights) you will need to get your luggage and check in again at the other airline’s desk.
I made a mistake in booking my flight, what should I do?
If you need to change your booking, please look for contact information on the e-ticket you received in your email inbox. Then contact the airline’s or travel agency’s website that the ticket was purchased from and ask them to make the necessary changes.
How do I cancel my flight?
If you are booking a single trip using two or more airlines, please make sure to review cancellation policies for each airline separately as they may differ considerably from airline to airline. To cancel a ticket you need to contact the airline or online travel agency that the ticket was purchased from.
Can I check my baggage all the way to my final destination?
This depends entirely on the kind of trip you have put together. If you purchase two or more separate tickets with different airlines you will need to recheck your bags, this may even apply if you purchase two separate tickets with the same airline. Contact the airline operating the first flight of each journey for more information on this.
Why do I sometimes need to book two or more separate tickets?
In order to find the best price for your journey and the fastest way to get to your destination, you may need to purchase your airline tickets separately from more than one airline or online travel website, see Self-Connect.
How do I pay for my tickets?
As you are not booking with flyvia or Dohop directly but with various online vendors or airlines, payment methods vary but you can always be sure that you will be able to pay by credit card. In most cases a credit card is probably the only option, and Dohop unfortunately cannot provide information regarding the payment methods of specific vendors.
How do I plan a multi-city journey?
Right now, Dohop doesn’t offer the tools to plan a multi-stop journey like a ’round the world trip. You can always buy as many one way tickets as you please, finding the cheapest way around the world your own way.
Why can’t I choose the number of passengers before I search?
We simply search and display prices on a per passenger basis, so we only need to search for one passenger. When you’ve found the price you want and select it, you’ll be asked to supply the number of passengers.
I found the flight I want, what do I do now?
Click the select button below the price and you’ll be taken to a transfer page where you’ll be asked to supply the number of passengers and specify children if any. Then you can go forward to the third party site we direct you to for booking the flight.
Why are some itineraries not priced?
We try to get prices for all of our flights, but sometimes we don’t succeed for several reasons. It can be that we don’t have an agreement with the respective airline, so we can’t see their prices, possibly something on their website is broken so we’re unable to get their prices, or it could be that there’s something wrong on our side. If you think you found an error like that, please let us know.
I know I can make a connecting flight, why don’t you show it?
We use complex rules to calculate which flights to show and which not. You can be sure that your flight is in our results, and by using the filters located above the search results you can filter out airports or airlines you don’t want, making it more likely that we’ll display the connecting flight you want. It can also be the case that our rules don’t agree with you and we simply think you will not make the connection. If you think this is an error on our part, please let us know.
How does flyvia make money?
Dohop has agreements with dozens of airlines and online travel agents who pay us a small fee when we direct our visitors to them for booking. It’s not much each time, but added up we manage to get by. Our goal is to always provide our best possible service to you for free, and this way we can and will continue to do so.
Why do I sometimes have to type in my destination and dates again?
We don’t have agreements with all of the airlines we display on our site, so sometimes all we can do is direct you to their site without sending along any other information that you may have entered on our site. We know this is an inconvenience so we’re constantly adding airline contracts to make life easier for our visitors. However we want to show you these search results even though we don’t get any revenue from it, simply because we want you to get the best flight.
Can I email my itinerary to a friend?
Yes you can. For each search result, you’ll see a link below it saying “Share”. Click it, and you’ll see a small window allowing you to put in your friend’s email address, and voila!
Can I show a friend my search result via social media?
Yes you can. Press “Share” in your search result and you can copy the url and paste it to the social media you prefer, e.g. Facebook, Google Plus, etc.
